Edison State Receives $130k Grant to Support Campus Safety

Edison State鈥檚 Department of Public Safety will use its award of $130,000 to help improve campus security and safety.

蜜桃传媒 is one of 28 Ohio colleges and universities to receive a share of $7.5 million in the latest round of grant funding from the Ohio Department of Higher Education鈥檚 Campus Safety Grant program. Edison State鈥檚 Department of Public Safety will use its award of $130,000 to help improve campus security and safety.

Jointly administered by ODHE and the Department of Public Safety鈥檚 Ohio School Safety Center, the Campus Safety Grant program funds physical security enhancements to help ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff.

鈥淲ith the award of the Campus Safety Grant, we will make further enhancements college wide to continue to ensure our students and staff have a safe learning and working environment,鈥 said Lee Harmon, Edison State Chief of Police and Director of Public Safety. 鈥淲e鈥檙e very pleased and grateful that the Ohio Department of Higher Education and the Department of Public Safety鈥檚 Ohio School Safety Center have provided us with the opportunity to do so.鈥

As part of its grant application, Edison State conducted a security and vulnerability assessment to identify areas that would benefit from safety enhancements. The College previously received a Campus Safety Grant during the program鈥檚 second round of awards in November 2022.

鈥淚 commend Edison State for making campus鈥攁nd student鈥攕afety a priority,鈥 said Ohio Department of Higher Education Chancellor Mike Duffey. 鈥淭his latest grant will help ensure that this well-run campus becomes even safer.鈥

After a successful history of creating a safe campus environment, the Department of Public Safety formed the Edison State Police Department in 2020, based on changing campus safety and security standards. Together, the law enforcement, security, and emergency management divisions of the department prioritize the safety of Edison State鈥檚 Piqua, Greenville, Troy, and Eaton locations.
